Honest question, how is it getting solar panels? I thought there was sanctions and blockcades

    2. > The speed of the solar surge has been startling. China exported around US$3 million of solar panels to Cuba in 2023; that figure rocketed to $117 million in 2025, according to Ember.

It’s actually an insane increase in 2 years. Curious what their 2026 orders have been like so far, guessing it’ll eclipse 2025.

    3. Donnie, Pete and Marco are furiously trying to figure out how to blockade the sun.

This crisis is the biggest help to move ourself away from fossil fuels. Im sure Donny is actually a secret green peace member fighting to help solve the climate crisis 🤣

This is the end of petro states. We will be drowning in oil in a decade.

Any chance the debacle in Iran will prevent Donald from invading Cuba before his term is up?

    7. Hey, don’t worry. We’ll wipe it out with our next air campaign.

We’re getting the worst of Chinese surveillance totalitarianism and the worst of rugged individualism where we have to deal with the externalities of the greediest among us with none of the benefits.

Isn’t crazy that after all this, Trump is ass backwards pushing the world towards renewables? It’s probably the first time his sheer incompetence has turned something towards the better

    9. The GoP+USA+Israel, spreading misery, pain, poverty and death around the world.

Ironically, invading the strait of Hormuz helps a ton of small nations pivot all their resources towards renewables.

      Great job I guess.

I love how the world just pivots away from Trump and America. Honestly, Trump has revealed how cowardly, weak and unintelligent Americans are.

    12. Traditional-Look8839 on

Trump is the epitome of every action having an equal or opposite reaction when it comes to foreign policy.

    13. BlackbirdSage on

      That’s it!!!

Trump’s closing the Straight of Hormuz, leveraging Venezuela & choking Cuba of oil?!

Do you know what this means?!

Trump’s a closeted environmentalist! He’s been secretly plotting to get the world over it’s addiction to Oil!

Cubans are going to lead the world in converting 1940s-50s American cars to electric.

If you dive in to some of things Cuba has done do to supply challenges it is pretty interesting. There are groundbreaking in sustainable horticulture do to their lack of ability to get pesticides and fertiliser.

They have done some innovative things out of necessity.

Those solar panels will be toast if Trump and his oil buddies get their hands on Cuba.

It is always amazing to me how consistently the supposedly ponderous, inflexible, thought policed, centrally planned evil communist societies end up completely out innovating and out maneuvering the supposedly lean, flexible, decentralized capitalist societies.

Like, the USSR went from a pre-industrial peasant revolution to landing a probe on another planet in like 50 years (the USSR officially came into existence in 1922, and Venera 7 landed on Venus in 1970 and became humanity’s first spacecraft to land on another planet — that is just 48 years).

China likewise went from an agrarian peasant society to outpacing the US in just 65 years (Communist China began in 1949, and China began outpacing US economic output in 2014 according to the IMF), and is currently so dominant over US firms that the US has to make it literally illegal to use their best stuff in the US.

And now, tiny little Cuba is potentially going to do what Elon “Tony Stark” Musk couldn’t do with all his billions, and build a viable solar economy…while under crippling sanctions and active threat of invasion.

There’s obviously a lot more to it than that…but even that simplistic take is closer to reality than the conventional US history attitude about it.

I hope Cuba survives. Once Venezuela turned into a vassal state, Cuba lost what little trade it had easy access to.

I am here to remind you that solar is dramatically cheaper nearly everywhere else in the world compared to the US.

America’s always been good at holding back progress by making it less convenient than the status quo. Trump thinks he can extort the status quo instead and is surprised when everyone chooses progress.

Good luck to Cuba. Living in the underbelly of the devil is hellish, for sure

    22. Brings a tear to your eye, really. It’s so cool to see a country fully embrace the energy transition. Cuba remains a model to the world.

    23. va_wanderer on

Not shocked- Cuba doesn’t have oligarchs trying to manipulate their energy infrastructure for maximum profit over actual progress.

    24. ImNotSkankHunt42 on

And yet my family is getting only a few hours of electricity per week.

Don’t believe most of what you read about Cuba online kids.

Won’t matter if you don’t have MVAR support solar alone won’t cut it. You need on demand energy
