Ghent University wants to simultaneously withdraw from the five remaining ‘problematic’ Horizon projects with Israeli partners. Rector Petra De Sutter said this on Wednesday after the board of directors. A meeting that could not take place last Friday after pro-Palestinian activists occupied the UFO building. “We will immediately start the exit for all five,” says De Sutter, which means partial compensation for the activists.

Symbolism, only UGent loses, while there will be no impact on Israeli aggressions against Palestinians. Belgium, unfortunately, is a very week academic partner overall. It would take a colossal international boycott for Israel consider any change. We saw the same with Russia.
But the students will feel good about themselves, that’s a positive thing. I guess.
