May 16, 2001 | We commemorate our 34 heroic Turkish soldiers who were martyred in the CASA plane crash in Malatya, with respect, gratitude and mercy. We haven’t forgotten.

Our CASA CN-235 type military transport plane, which took off from Diyarbakır, crashed near the Akçadağ district of Malatya, and unfortunately, 34 heroic Turkish soldiers from the Special Forces Command (Maroon Berets) and the Air Force were martyred.

May the souls of all our martyrs who lost their lives in this accident, one of the biggest and most painful losses in Turkish aviation history, rest in peace and rest in peace. My condolences to the Turkish nation.
