Well, calling a thriving democracy of 23 million people a “negotiating chip” is just repulsive foreign policy. Trump is basically telling Beijing out loud that the US is perfectly willing to sell out its democratic allies if the price is right!
The most absurd part of this whole thing is his demand that Taiwan move all their advanced microchip manufacturing to the US. Why on earth would Taiwan voluntarily hand over their “silicon shield” to a guy who is actively threatening to withhold the weapons they need to defend themselves? The entire reason Beijing hesitates to invade is because destroying Taiwan’s chip foundries would instantly cripple the global economy. If Taiwan moves that industry to America, they lose their ultimate leverage and guarantee their own invasion.
Good on the Taiwanese president for holding the line and refusing to play along. You cannot treat a sovereign nation like a poker chip in a trade war.

DAMN STRAIGHT!!!
The Taiwanese look at Hong Kong since it was handed back\over to China, and they say: “*Nah. We don’t want any of that!!*”
The so-called “One Country, Two Systems” promised by the CCP, has proven to be what every serious political commentator\analyst said it was: **A LIE**.
The CCP has DESTROYED Hong Kong; rule of law\ Judicial Independence has gone; political opposition, trade unions, free\independent press has gone\seriously curtailed; personal freedoms restricted; surveillance is everywhere; the economy has been shattered; foreign companies have left in droves; and foreign inward investment has fallen off a cliff.
Which country in it’s right mind wants that to happen to them?

Semi-conductors are important for your military industrial complex, Trump. Don’t be so rash and foolhardy, you’ve already destroyed oil prices; you can’t afford this mistake as well.

I would say that Taiwan is China, and China is temporarily occupied CCP territory. All autocracies fail.

Taiwan has not “always been a part of China” as the Chinese government would have you believe. There are indigenous Taiwanese people, the island was Colonised by Han Chinese in the 1600s. This idea that it has been Chinese territory for millennia is pure fantasy.
I also just don’t really understand why the Chinese government care so much. A state in my country could declare independence tomorrow and I wouldn’t give a flying fuck. It’s 25 million people or so, and they have a population of over a billion. Why the fuck do they even give a shit?
Taiwan has also been seperate from China for long enough for a distinct culture and identity to develop. At the end of the day, majority of Taiwanese do not wish to be part of China. They favour the current status quo, which is de facto independence, as they don’t want to rock the boat which is understandable. A population has the right to self determination.
