16k for a watch you can’t service is wild. They look nice, I’ll probably pick one up at some point. Should have had online sales though.

    2. Completely embarassing behaviour.

I guess at least they’re taking a break from buying every packet of Pokemon card in the store. Maybe some kids can actually get them this weekend.

    3. Interesting_Gold7527 on

I didn’t even realise Swatch watches were still a thing! They were popular when I was school, but I haven’t seen any or heard about them for years!

    4. This is obviously for resale but is the market there on this item? Who needs one that badly? What clout does it give you?

It’s a plastic pocketwatch that anyone who would recognise it would know it costs £400. Basically I don’t get why people are going this crazy over it?

That £16k figure can’t be true surely

    5. It’s a fucking watch. And not even a very nice looking one at that.

Greed / selfishness in this country is a huge problem.

    6. Responsible_Lie_1989 on

What’s the deal with this watch? I looked at it online and thought it looked very meh?

    7. It’s all scalpers and you can’t blame them.. if you look up sold prices on eBay and StockX there are morons buying these plastic watches at 3x the retail price.

    8. Calm-Treacle8677 on

These the ugly AP pockets watches made of plastic for £350? A fool and his money

    9. A pocket watch that costs about £10 to make, sold for £300+, only bought by people who hope to sell it on on the Bay for £10k+ (of course, most of them will be stuck with their purchase).. I’m a sucker for the colourways but come on, who even uses a pocketwatch this century? This whole thing is the epitome of online hype.

    10. SwingyWingyShoes on

Scalpers selling a few hundred quid watch for over 1.5k. People were camping outside the store the day before when I saw the shop.

    11. Like Pokémon cards, and limited edition trainers, late stage capitalism is batshit.

Why is this a thing people do, acquiring stuff is such a boring life choice. When did doing stuff become so unpopular?

    12. This is such bad PR for the AP brand that I think it will put them off doing any future collabs like this.

    13. thr-oh-noes on

Ridiculous. Same with the Omega x Swatch where you can only buy in store. If you’ve got tiny shops and insist on only selling via store, trying to increase demand and competition for them, expect queues. Surely it’s not difficult to foresee issues with capacity at the stores themselves, who was responsible for the risk assessment.

    14. The thing that amazes me with this is that they are reporting one is listed online for 16k. I can list anything I want for 16k, doesn’t mean it will sell. It’s just dumb over-consumerism

Don’t forget your black puffer jacket fam. Genuinely amazes me that mobile phones have bred this culture.

    16. FatherJack_Hackett on

A lot of puffer jackets in that photo.

      Weird.

Could have sworn I saw exactly the same outfits in a large queue outside Smyths once.

      Must just be a coincidence!

    17. ElectricalDevice9653 on

Same idiots who queued up for cans of prime because the internet told them to

    18. TikTok users decide to obsess about something. Innocent shop staff put in danger. Item destined for the bin in 7-10 days.

    19. Swatch could stop all this by making them more available online etc but I guess if it wasn’t this it would be something else.

    20. Consistent-Pirate-23 on

Some swatches are nice, I have 3, but one of those is from 1990 and another from I think 1985, paid very little for them

    21. “Good news board, we can make an extra £150,000 with this limited run! All we’ll have to do is close our flagship stores for a few days, which will cost probably at least ten times that in sales – but we’ll be TikTok famous!”

    22. ScrotbagScrewball on

Meadowhall was fairly busy (probably just looking) but had about 6 security guards 🤣

Scalping has just ruined too many HOBBIES, I remember wanting a piece from the Hamilton x RE9 collection and now they are being resold for just ridiculous prices. This set doesn’t even look that good too its just pure hype and stupidity.

    24. Infamous_Telephone55 on

They look like something that you’d get in an Aldi Christmas Cracker.

    25. I saw a comment saying this looks like a ‘gambling economy’ basically people are more likely to gamble if they are skint, when the economy is down you see more gambling, this kind of scalping is just gambling. Its a bad sign.

    26. Brilliant-Army6857 on

The watches look cute til you flip them over and see that stupid royal pop print on the back

    27. Feels utterly manufactured. Noone gave a shit about Swatch watches a few weeks ago. Wasn’t a thing.

This is like Dwight at the Sabre Pyramid launch

    28. ArcherVisible5866 on

There needs legislation about this like in Japan. It’s gambling, for children but children can’t get these cards anymore

    29. Oddball_bfi on

I honestly don’t think I care. I *do* care if there’s civil unrest,or shop workers are abused,or any other part of the world is affected by this.

But if Swatch sell all their stuff, Swatch’s employees get paid, and someone somewhere pays taxes… then what do I care.

But then I see police getting deployed, that’s costing us all money.

And Swatch shops are closing due to ‘safety’ – that’s people working their jobs, getting scared enough to have to shut the doors.

That’s the point people should be getting arrested. Potentially including Swatch executives who created this problem in the first place.

    30. Significant_Tree8407 on

They cannot be fixed, if they don’t work. My wife had a problem with hers and with no Swatch outlet anywhere near screwed.

    31. I remember this happening – the massive queues at least – when Swatch released the Moonswatch collaboration with Omega a few years ago. Anyway, I’d fancied one of the red and white ones (Mars, IIRC) and just waited a few months until, one day, when I was down at my then employer’s HQ just off Oxford Street I wandered along the road to the Swatch Shop one lunchtime and was… terribly disappointed.

These were watches that photographed well but which, in person, would have been fine for £60-100 (i.e., typical Swatch price) but were absolutely not worth the £240 Swatch wanted for them.

Having seen photos of the new pocketswatch, or whatever they’re calling their AP collaboration, I just know the same is going to be true here. Absolutely not going to be worth the £350ish asking price.

People are insane about these things.

    32. Some sort of law needs to be brought in about scalping because it’s getting ridiculous

    33. Quirky-Respond93 on

I have literally no idea what this post means 😌 old and thankful 🙏
