    1. A POEM IN DEEP ADMIRATION FOR THOSE BRILLIANT GREEN AND BUSHY PLANTS WHICH SOMEHOW MANAGE TO GROW OUT OF THE SIDES OF BUILDINGS VERY HIGH UP EVEN THOUGH THERE IS NO SOIL WHATSOEVER UP THERE AND GOD ALONE KNOWS HOW THEY GET THEIR ROOTS INTO THOSE TEENCHY CRACKS IN THE BRICKWORK

My dear green and bushy plants,
during my black and barren periods
when the only thing I wish to do
is fall asleep and never wake up again
      I wander around Dublin City
      looking towards the tops
      of incredibly high buildings
and when I see you sprouting out
      of a truly impossible place
where you have no right to be
I quietly murmur – “If you guys
      can make it up there
      well maybe perhaps down here
      I can cling on too.”
      Thank you.
