Essentially, the UCP wants to draw an absolutely flagrant gerrymander of Calgary, Lethbridge, Red Deer, and to a lesser extent Edmonton.
The Calgary one is particularly disgraceful and probably illegal. They are absolutely hoping to screw Alberta’s largest city out of fair representation.

It’s so predictable in Canada that our provincial and federal conservative parties will just imitate the same policies and political messaging and tactics as the GOP in the US. If you wanna know what they’ll do just watch the GOP and they’ll attempt the Canadian version of about six months later.

How can the rest of Canada share their displeasure with this? How they cannot do this.
We are not the states. This should not happen in Canada.
I am looking to see if the UCP will be smart enough to tweak the maps so they’re just favourable enough while maintaining the veil of “protecting rural ridings.”

This is gerrymandering and it needs to be stopped. There is no reason at all for ridings in cities the size of Calgary to have rural components. Even that majority map has a couple things sticking out which seem odd. But the gerrymandered minority map is full of them.

That’s why we didn’t want to be the 51st state
The [Chief Justice of Alberta](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/christina-gray-brandon-lunty-electoral-boundaries-alberta-9.7201688) denied the legislature committee’s request to ask retired judges to participate.
