    1. For all the talk of a “limitless partnership,” China still isn’t rushing to tie itself to Russia’s economic future.

Turns out being Moscow’s useful partner is one thing, writing a massive cheque to bail Putin out is another.

    2. After thinking about the reason why, LOL. Mind you I just had a light toke and a couple of beers.

    3. * Coal is China’s bedrock.
      * Solar and wind, China is a world leader in capacity addition
      * Hydropower makes up 13% of China’s energy supply
      * Nuclear, China is rapidly expanding.
      * Gas plays only a supporting role.

China likes you to buy their stuff, made as self sufficiently as possible. Investing in infrastructure to buy someone else’s stuff doesn’t feel very ‘China’

A swing and a miss Pooptin.

    4. China is going solar, nuclear, coal and renewables. Lots of EVs in China and more each day.

It would be risky to invest in pipeline, when ukrainians blowing up the source

Sounds like Putin has been reduced to a junior partner. Can’t win in Ukraine. Can no longer influence other nations. Russia hasn’t been this weak since the time of the Tzars.

It seems like they’re reluctant because they’re worried about becoming overly dependent on Russian energy

“The Chinese century” has been long predicted. With China allowing its competitors to bleed each other out, they simply wait and waltz into pole position.

      It’s the Sunmaker’s Gambit.

The Chinese are the real winners from this whole mess. Xi realized the future is not oil and doubled down on electric and renewables. They still need oil for plastic and necessary chemicals but not nearly as much as the required to power transportation and energy infra. Like them (their government) or not, you still need to recognize what they did (and continue to do) is remarkable.

China got the deal with the US to get Venezuelan oil. Not in the news yet but clear if you’re into geopolitics

      geopolitics baby

even if china and russia are allies, it benefits china for russia to be weak so they can dig their claws in

just like the russian assets all over the US government have made sure to weaken the US internally and externally

i mean it sucks but it’s the same reason why everyone is funneling money into ukraine, it’s not because they care, it’s because it fucks russia and weakens them and that for the US and the rest of the EU is great

it’s expensive but not as expensive and damaging as it is to russia

    12. Hungry-ThoughtsCurry on

It Russia as a country fails, will China take it under it’s wing and have expanded it’s borders? China can simply keep postponing the Siberia-2, wait to see how things play out and then easily sweep the remains

    13. shovepiggyshove_ on

And to think that Russia being China’s vassal state was considered a radical take just 10 years ago…

Winnie the Pooh must have a nice power trip, both US and Russia come begging for something he won’t grant. If I didn’t feel bad for Taiwan, it would be hilarious.

    15. As expected, what China want (really low gas price like 50% lower than what Russia want) is impossible for Russia and they didn’t have any leverage.

    16. Hard sell after Putin got Europe hooked on russian oil and gas and then fucked Europe over and tried to use the energy for blackmail. I’d pass on that deal too.

    17. Additional_Leek2887 on

If Ukraine have no problem blowup the gas pipeline from Germany to Russia, they don’t have an issues doing it again, even if the other end is china.

    18. Stingray77_NL on

Of course Xi wants to be neutral in 2030. So, no more fossil fuels. 🤷‍♂️

    19. LiveToLoveAndLearn on

Looks like Putin failed to notice the benefits of electric technologies vs the successor of the steam engines.

Xi is riding the train of the future

    20. Elegant_Accident2035 on

Wait just a little bit longer and get a better deal. Makes sense.

    21. SubmarineWipers on

Xi is not about to build a dependency on unstable murderous psychopath with a god complex, when he can just build more renewables, that dont need any fuel. Smart man.

    22. CP_Chronicler on

China doesn’t need Russia. China just wants to subtly keep the US down while it’s failing and as far as Russia can help that it will assist but China has no real stake in any of it. China is extremely authoritarian but highly successful in authoritarian-style “benevolence”, so they have a fair amount of economic and manufacturing strength. For now…

China just has to keep doing what it’s doing, focus on technological growth in its industries, and keep staying out of nation building.

The US is a hot mess, but Russia – that has been an empty shell of a failed state for 90 years at this point, with the 100 year anniversary of Stalin’s reign of terror coming up in just 10 years. They have been the world’s drug-addict alcoholic criminal uncle all this time, with a couple stints in rehab when the Berlin Wall fell in 1989 and the Constitutional Crisis in 1993, both of which failed to materialize any change and they returned to their corrupt criminal ways.

Putin clinging on to power has probably been the single greatest disaster for humankind for the last quarter century. It has set the entire world back A LOT.

He’s gonna start lashing out, watch like a spoiled child he is. He’s trying to keep his money flowing. People starting to see his bullshit. He must get lash out in desperation watch out.

    24. Taste of his own medicine,. “Allies” on the outside. Rivals on the inside.

    25. They don’t want to look bad when it gets blown up every day. Also, they will probably wait to negotiate with Putin’s successor.

    26. Xi is very much in favour of this new pipeline. He just wants Putin to pay for its construction.

Knowing how unreliable Russia is in terms of delivery of energy, he just does not want to risk any money on such unpredictable partner.

I guess for Putin this is a FAFO moment.

    27. Sorry-Programmer9826 on

Would be a weird time to start a *new* pipeline. Fossil fuels do remain useful for now but their time is waning. By the time the pipeline was finished it would be a white elephant

    28. Legitimate_Award_998 on

China is growing economically each year and they have the patience to let everyone else make mistakes while they sit passively and don’t make big military moves on the world stage. This is why I think China will not attack Taiwan militarily in the next decade, its simply because they don’t have to unless Taiwan is not gonna declare independence. There might be tensions but never something drastic.

    29. owlbear4lyfe on

Xi will have China build it internally in ten years after they annex half of them.
