They will need to protest more. They are soon to find out up to 3 additional US military bases in Greenland which will be treated as sovereign US land.

“Three months ago Greenland was under threat of invasion and takeover and he [Landry] was one of the people supporting that statement,” Christian Keldsen, chief executive of the Greenland Business Association said. “Then three months later you show up here wanting to make friends, handing out chocolate to children and trying to hand out MAGA caps.”
Greenland’s Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen and other politicians declined invitations to attend the consulate’s opening.
Why did Denmark let them build a consulate there in the first place.

It is an epic feat to be the most disliked country in the world when Iran and Isreal are doing what they are doing.
I live in the US, and aside from media coverage, nobody in my circle talks about the threats to Greenland. Same with any aggression toward Canada, the EU, Cuba, or Venezuela. Iran gets talked about among most of the general population here only in the context of rising oil prices.
It’s like most people here don’t care about the pain the US government injects in the world. They’re aware, and they have access to the internet – they just don’t care.

Donald Trump reportedly is talking about how he wants to be seen as one of history’s great men.

The only legacy he’s leaving is that of the most corrupt President in the history of the United States, a 5 times draft deferring warmonger, an anti science and environment administration and the most famous child rapist after Jefferey Epstein. On the plus side he’s shown to the people of the U.S. how weak their laws, checks and balances were and what needs to be done to fix them.

How is it possible to open a consulate without support from the local government? All the staff needs to get diplomatic clearance from Greenland/Denmark ahead of the opening. So was this preapproved by Greenland/Denmark and with the public outcry happening after the fact?

This consulate opening formalizes a relationship that’s existed militarily for eighty years, not a new intrusion. The decision to open it was announced back in 2020, long before the recent annexation rhetoric.
The protest matters, but Nuuk has 19,000 residents. Crowd size versus actual sentiment is hard to gauge from one demonstration. What’s clear: Trump’s comments about taking Greenland turned what should have been routine diplomatic expansion into a loaded symbol. Greenland’s been pushing for more independence from Denmark for years, and they don’t want to trade Copenhagen’s oversight for Washington’s. The timing couldn’t be worse for the State Department trying to build Arctic partnerships while China pushes Belt and Road infrastructure into the region.

What’s different now is the context: Trump’s public annexation talk turned what should’ve been unremarkable into a sovereignty flashpoint. The consulate opening was announced before his recent rhetoric escalated, but the timing makes it read as pressure. Denmark and Greenland were already navigating a tricky autonomy process, and this doesn’t help.
The protest size matters. Nuuk has 19,000 people. If a few dozen showed up, that’s one data point. If it’s hundreds, that’s something else. The coverage doesn’t make that clear. We’ve been watching how Greenlandic politicians respond they’re stuck between not wanting to antagonize the US (they rely on the defense relationship) and not wanting to look like they’re rolling over. That’s the real tension here, not just the consulate itself.
Denmark spent $1.2 billion on Greenlandic infrastructure since 2009 while the US consulate cost $90 million to build. Greenlanders know who’s actually invested in their future.
I have heard, that many millionaires, billionaires, and our soon to be first trillionaire, have luxury bunkers there, which ties in with wanting to own Greenland to become a whites only state. I have no idea where i heard it, but, you know.
MAGA is nuts. I had one of those metal straws. A MAGA type was telling me I got taken because I spent 1.95 on the metal straw. This guy boasted that he bought some plastic Trump straws. I asked him how much he paid. He said 10 bucks for a hundred.
I pointed out that he paid 10 bucks for a package of straws that go for 1 buck without the word Trump stamped on the straw. I can use the metal straw for 100 uses.
Net net, MAGA laid out 10 cents per use. I paid 2 cents per use.
