Encampments are hives of people’s stolen property and drugs. If somebody steals your phone, there is a very good chance it ends up in one of these encampments. Crime rates also soar in the areas that they set up.
They shouldn’t exist and residents shouldn’t have to tolerate them.

These fucking judges need to be fired.
And yes, please please use the notwithstanding clause. These judges have usurped the democratic power of the people’s representatives for far too long, inventing rights – like rights to camp wherever you want and the right to free government housing – that’s found NOWHERE in the constitution.

What happened?

I’m with Ford on this one (a rare thing). Tolerating these shanty towns isn’t good for anyone.

In Kingston we’ve got people building insulated structures with real doors and sliding windows right next to the water in what is supposed to be a park. It’s absolutely crazy. They’ve got fences, one made a stone walk way to their spot. Paraphernalia and garbage absolutely everywhere.

I live in KW, every single person was offered space at a tiny home place with food, their own little tiny home, heat/AC, laundry, medical/mental health services, etc. about 3 years ago, alternate options were also offered if they weren’t down for that.
I have zero sympathy for anyone there at all

It’s time to build new institutions for the people that don’t have the ability to care for themselves. Even if we provide housing they still wouldn’t receive the care they need. Not addressing this basic requirement and kicking it down the road because it’s not politically correct is costing us millions. I empathize with the people struggling and we need to treat them better and with care and respect.

If you are dependant on drugs; rehab
If you are homeless, then our government needs to cut back on these bullshit foreign aid spending and open up some facilities with councellors and work programs.
We have so many jobs to fill.
If you are mentally incapable, wards.
Laws banning people from sleeping in parks and on streets. You get caught; you go to one of three.

Seems like it’s time to move the shelter to the Judge’s neighborhood.

My first thought was, the federal and provincial gov’ts can expropriate homes on private land, but they can’t move an encampment?
However, lets face it, there are few if any places that welcome and care for the homeless.
Beyond that, if the gov’t relocates the people in this particular encampent, then suddenly there will be encampments poping up in front of every infrastructure project.
Regardless, perhaps the answer lies in that second problem and finding a more humanatarian way to deal with the homeless than we do now needs to be encorporated into the price of all these large scale infrastructure upgrades which are coming.

Conservatives stop any attempt at actually fixing the problem by complaining incessantly about safe injection sites, raising disability rates, and creating housing for them.
They underfunded one pillar of the solution for 4 years, then said “it’s not working, let’s just punish them” instead of actually trying to fix the problem because they think it’s too expensive, despite policing and removal costing at least 4x more than the actual solution.

Whats ridiculous is under funding healthcare for years and not expecting this result.

Hot take: We shouldn’t bulldoze these encampments unless we give these people somewhere else to go. They’re like the Hoovervilles during the Great Depression.

Thuggish talk from Dumbass Doug is unsurprising.
