So this is my second time doing an 80+ km walk. I booked this trip on impulse about a week ago since I didn't want to wait a month like I did with my walk from Penrith to Bondi

I got up at 11pm the night prior on barely 3 hours of sleep and caught the second last train out to East Pakenham starting this walk at 1:10am

I really liked the stretch from Fountain Gate to Dandenong and getting to see Dandenong's skyline from a distance but my favourite part had to be the stretch from Oakleigh to the CBD. I had to include the Yarra River trail again as I had done it from South Yarra about a year ago when walking from Ringwood to the CBD

My body did a lot better this time round and just felt funny for the last 10-20km. The pain set in immediately once I sat down I. the Docklands though 😭

Nice, I’ve been wanting to do something similar. Was there much in terms of prep or you just yolo’d it?

You know there is a train that goes from Pakenham to Southen Cross station right? Just in case you did not know.🤣

      Wonderful mate!
May be ping me next time and we can go chatting along on a Saturday. I have done 42KM in one go.

    4. That’s very impressive!

Last year, on a whim, I decided to walk the length of Hume Highway/Sydney Road, from the furthest out before it joins the freeway. That’s way shorter than Pakenham to Docklands though. It “only” was about 30km. But it still took me a long time and my feet were very sore after.

Tried it once. Made it to Clayton before my legs stopped working 😆. Great effort!

      That’s amazing, well done!

How would I download the route you took, and how did you follow it – did you use a smartphone, a hiking GPS, or?

My dream is to do a ride similar to this – in my case I’d like to do Pakenham to the GPO.

      Any tips or suggestions appreciated.

This is very odd but in a very cool way. Huge props to you, love this.

    8. Mad respect because I know how unfriendly most of Melbourne is for travelling on foot. It’s so garbage having to stop constantly for crossings

Used to run 21km home along the bay trail after work and spent ages refining my route to minimise how often I had to stop

That’s very cool, how did you determine the route? I noticed there was a little maze in Narre Warren haha. Also, is it kinda scary to walk in the middle of the night?

That must have been quite the experience!

What were the highlights of your journey?

That’s very impressive, great work. I’m curious for a walk like that, how often did you take breaks? (if any)

    12. monumental effort

you gotta do one in a nicer landscape! like take the v-line out somewhere and walk to another v-line station

18 hours??? You mad man. I live in Pakenham and the hour long train into the city was enough already

Have you done the lilydale to warburton trail? We’ve cycled it and its one of the most beautiful and scenic trails I’ve done, especially in autumn. I have thought about walking the whole thing as a challenge.

    14. As someone who did a really stupid long walk a few months ago, very respectable and amazing job. I mean this is way longer than what I did. So that’s insane

      Amazing, really well done.

I did a 56km circuit around northern suburbs yesterday. It went pretty well but I don’t think I’m at a point where I could do 80 yet. Waiting to see what the post walk consequences are going to be before I start planning anything longer.

Any advice on getting through 60 to 80?

Great work! My wife and I have done something similar, but we started from Werribee and then walked to the CBD. Clearly not as far as Pakenham, but it was actually a lot of fun. I’d recommend people to do it
