what does slave-trading mean here? were there non-slave-trading entities in the region that are not included in the map?

the feedback loop u/yuje described is the key thing on this map – its basically a geographic map of “who got guns first.” the empires closest to the coast had access to european weapons and that advantage compounded fast. wondering what the source is tho, bc the 19th century cutoff is doing alot of work here when most of these entities peaked earlier

Crazy how guns were so sought after in West Africa it led to more slavery for more guns and so on. Also sugar, tabacco and European goods.

    5. It’s probably good to note that some of these polities were empires in the traditional meaning of the word, whereas others were just the “personal” territory of one specific slaves hunter

How to destroy the prosperous African Kingdom in the West/East Coast:

      1. Ban Slavery
      2. That’s all.

I dunno, I’m sceptical of this. Seems like the French want to wash their bloody colonial hands.
