Putting political messaging apps on government devices sounds like a cybersecurity and privacy nightmare waiting to happen. Government phones should be for secure communication and work tools, not apps tied to any administration or political branding.

The Hatch Act is supposed to strictly prohibit federal civil servants from engaging in partisan political activity while on duty or using government resources. It should make put an app the White House installs to push its partisan messaging unlawful. Of course, Donald Trump will pardon people doing illegal stuff for him and the Republican Congress won’t exercise appropriate oversight of the Donald Trump’s Executive Branch. The Democrats will (hopefully) recapture control of the House and Senate in a blue wave during the 2026 elections to provide actual oversight and leverage against the executive overreach.

The app includes videos and messaging that are overtly political or directly related to campaigns, the type of material with which employees are typically discouraged from engaging while on the clock due to the non-partisan nature of their work.
Putting a non-optional, “overtly political” app on federal employees’ work devices feels like a massive violation of the Hatch Act. Federal workers are legally required to keep political campaigning completely separate from their government duties. Forcing this onto their phones is a wild precedent.

Regardless of the actual intent of this app (you know they are harvesting data), this is a massive security risk. So a hacker just needs to be able to figure out how to get code into this app and they will be on every government employees phone? Or hack in to one of the 3rd party services? This is like waving a big flag to our enemies. “PLEASE COME HACK ME!?!?!”
