    1. All these numbers are very low really, since it’s per 1 million. Deaths due to traffic accidents are like 20-90 per 1 million depending on the country.

Why is Sweden so high? It looks very put of place with such a high number.

I know that the Vatican is greyed out (presumably “no data”), but given the population of approximately 1,000, either no gun deaths means the lowest in Europe (0 per million), even 1 would be the highest (1,000 per million).

Isn’t it legal to buy funding the store in San Marino? And are there other countries where you can buy handguns for example not just hunting rifles(that Germany has iirc)?

To me, a Dutch person, the selling of guns is a weird concept.

These maps also present a certain bias and need careful interpretation. What you are seeing is being counted for the whole country, where as gun deaths usually are concentrated in big cities where most if not all the shootings happen. Another thing to take into consideration is that gun deaths are only part of the total crime, and to get a clearer picture for that, look at the following link where crime index shows a completely different picture where crime is relatively evenly distributed throughout whole of europe: [https://www.numbeo.com/crime/region_rankings_current.jsp?region=150](https://www.numbeo.com/crime/region_rankings_current.jsp?region=150)

The figures for Italy are incorrect. In 2021 (the year shown on the map) there were 91 firearm-related homicides which puts the rate at 1.54, not 3.00 as the map indicates.

Its truly a mystery in why Sweden is so high in comparison to its nordic neighbours

    9. Just as I thought: it’s the Catholics.

And, seriously, what happened to Sweden?! I worked there for a few months in the 90s and it was a haven of peace compared to the UK.

This was 5 years ago, that is quite a long for these kinds of statistics

If this was 2011 and not 2021 Norway would be in the other end of the scala.

“2021” this map is SERIOUSLY outdated for ukraine and russia

    13. One is significantly less than all the others but it is obviously a complete mystery why.

    14. Hard to believe that the rate in Ireland (1.35) is seven times the U.K. (0.19). In fact, I don’t believe it.

Why is ireland so high? Are you including Northern Ireland too? Because that seems very high?
