A graduation speech at a service academy is historically supposed to be a non-partisan, unifying send-off for newly commissioned officers who just swore an oath to support and defend the entire Constitution. Turning a West Point commencement into a Fox News-style cultural grievance monologue is an absolute disservice to those cadets. Telling a diverse class of future leaders that ‘diversity is not our strength’ on day one of their active-duty careers doesn’t build cohesion, it intentionally fractures the chain of command along political fault lines before they even reach their first platoons.
