Counting has finished: (Centre-)right DiSY & left AKEL remain unchanged, centre(-right) DIKO loses 1 seat, far-right ELAM doubles, 2 parties enter parliament (centrist ALMA & Fidias’ DDC) and 4 parties are kicked out (centrist DiPa & centre-left EDEK, KOSP, & Volt). 17% of votes were below threshold

To be fair mostly of us knew that was going end up like that. Btw why some redditors thought that Volt would get some seats ?

Honestly, these were surprising results. I can’t pretend I predicted all of this, because I definitely didn’t.

The first big takeaway for me is that the establishment parties basically remained stagnant. DISY and AKEL staying almost unchanged with no seat shifts basically means nothing learned, nothing changed.

What genuinely surprised me was how much ALMA and Amesi Dimokratia underperformed compared to polling. The polls had ALMA near 11% at some points and Anexartiti Dimokratia not far behind. Turns out they were massively overestimated. Volt was to be expected.

Out of all the established parties, the clear winner of the day is ELAM. Doubling their vote share and seats.

What’s also interesting is the large amount of votes that ended up below the threshold, alongside the unusually high amount of blank and invalid ballots.

which parties are in government now? will there be a new government?

    4. My compatriots will never learn that fascists, sexists and plutocrats have never done anything good for this island and will drag us even lower than where we are now. We have no future and we collectively vote like a boomer.

For a foreigner who frequently comes to cyprus, what will change based on the election results?

It is really disappointing that party like ELAM now has 8 seats in the parliament. Meanwhile, the Turkish Cypriot “parliament” doesn’t even have a single extremist member, and there is not even a single official political party in the north that is extremist and wishes death to Greek Cypriots(like what ELAM wishes to Turkish Cypriots).

ALMA looks like a decent party as far as i can tell, is it actually like that?
