    1. & then agrees to collaborate with Anthropic. smoke & mirrors.

edit to add: i believe it is odd, to say the least, that the church is getting involved with ai like this. “church-tech ethics” is nauseating. but maybe that’s what’s necessary to keep ai in check. i simply don’t take the church for its word, but only time will tell what this all means.

Defense contractors are probably laughing their asses off reading this tbh. there is literally zero chance the military industrial complex stops weaponizing ai when billions of dollars are on the line.

    3. Good like with that. I doubt the people working on ai believe much in Catholicism so his words will mean nothing to them.

It’s already too late. It’s pretty much a global race to whoever can get to Skynet with a government and elites that think they can control it.

    6. This will be just as effective as when the Vatican called for crossbows to be banned.

    7. The actual concern is how aggressively companies are trying to replace workers before society has time to adapt :/

He uses the word ‘disarm’ in a broader sense than the military definition. Quote about ‘disarm’:

“Finally, I would like to employ the expression “to disarm,” which is close to my heart. Disarming AI means freeing it from the mentality of “armed” competition, which today is not limited simply to the military context, but is also an economic and cognitive phenomenon. This entails a race for ever more powerful algorithms and larger datasets, driven by the desire to secure geopolitical or commercial dominance. To disarm means discrediting the assumption that technical power automatically confers the right to govern. To disarm does not mean rejecting technology, but preventing it from dominating humanity. It means freeing technology from monopolistic control and opening it to discussion and debate, therefore making it human-friendly and restoring it to the plurality of human cultures and ways of life.”

      Whole letter, worth reading https://www.vatican.va/content/leo-xiv/en/encyclicals/documents/20260515-magnifica-humanitas.html

I cant shout this enough: AI ISNT THE FUCKING PROBLEM, ITS UNCHECKED LATE STAGE CAPITALISM.
If it wasnt AI, it would be some other big tech advancement that the billionaires can push to make more billions. AI is just the latest in a long line of technology advancements who’s profits were funneled into a select few, instead of the whole of society. But they control the media. So they know the public will need a new scapegoat, and they can push the tech for profit at the same time letting the public get super upset at the tech , INSTEAD, of them.

Remember when Johnny Five tried to go to catholic confession in Short Circuit 2?

    12. You can’t put the cat back in the bag at this point. The technology is out and anyone can do it themselves and even run it locally.
