you wouldn’t believe how expensive alcohol is in turkey 😃
that’s why consumption seems low

It’s from 2019…. I remember I saw data from 2025 and the trend in Poland is down and very strongly so I would mark this post as a bait

Spirits only, not all alcoholÂ

Some guy mentioned craft beer taking off in our lovely country, but I believe it’s the matter of our drink of choice, which I believe is still mostly wódeczka/stronger alcohols. More voltage equals more pure spirit consumption, i.e. a German can drink a comparable volume of beer, but since it usually contains 8 times less ethanol, they can’t really beat us.
Same with wine cultures in South-Wester Europe and e.g. Moldova (which curiously has the same ratio as France)
Serbia is interesting for me, since it intuitively should have similar drinking patterns to us, but the ratio is significantly lower. The trend of younger people drinking less may be showing, since their fertility rate is c. 1,6
Overall alcohol consumption looks very different. Eastern Europe basically has a preference for distilled spirits. Also: this data doesn’t take into account homebrewing and illegal distilleries.

Italy? How?
Yeah, Russia 3.2 😂 Only officially.
No way Turkey is that low? All my Iranian family living near Turkey goes there just to buy lots of alcohol? Maybe Turks don’t drink as much
I find the numbers hard to believe. Why is UK so low? Every student there gets stoned every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
Nice. Sadly consumption is actually going slowly down
Latvija uzvara!
So alcohol is bad now?
It is way, way higher. 12l for Romania in 2025.
This map looks phony even for 2022
