Self-driving vehicles should only be allowed on closed tracks, and not on public roads, until the technology is 100% as safe or better as human drivers. I don’t like being an unwilling participant.

I don’t know about self driving buses… The driver is also the security guard. They notice if someone is running late and wait for them. They can help people in wheelchairs if they need the little entry bridge thing folded out. And they fix doors when they get jammed or stuck.

I find it a bit hypocritical that a majority of comments come out in defense of the AI driven bus (that’s about to make busdrivers obsolete and unemployed) meanwhile every situation where AI art is mentioned (which is about to make artists obsolete) people seem to despise it worth than the plague.

Mixing brand new autonomous tech with legacy manual transit is pretty risky. Trams run on fixed tracks so they’re predictable, but relying on a human operator to react instantly to a suddenly stopping robot bus is a strange setup. Teething issues are totally expected with these pilots, but hopefully the data collected will actually improve safety rather than just funding reports.

It could have been avoided if both the bus and tram were self driving controlled by a central AI.
