I live in Berlin. Spotted him on the wall when I went to the balcony. He stayed totally still when I was taking photos and didn’t seem to care about me but his size is definitely intimidating me, his leg span is probably around 7cm. I don’t mind him existing in my vicinity as long as he won’t bite me or climb on me.

Giant European House Spider.
Big, ugly, FAST and harmless.
Mostly harmless.

Looks like a house spider, can bite but nothing dangerous, basically a wasp’s sting
Native German spiders are all chill and harmless. Just let it live, it’ll eat bugs that would otherwise live on your balcony.
Oh they get bigger, and love to come inside. Let em chill… No harm.. also they eat bugs. I’m happy to let them be around my plants.
Friendly dude that will eat bugs and critters for you. Literally called House Spider, as was already said. They usually don’t climb on you unless you try and pick them up, otherwise they scarper when you breathe too loudly lol
Bro – this is tiny..:by international standards.
Tip: don‘t ever move to SEA or Africa. Actually nor South America!
(Edit: And of course Aussie!)
I like when I see spiders at home it’s like seeing nature doing its job
I give them names if I have one in the house 😄. If a spider really bothers you, just slip them in a glass covered with a sheet of paper and put them out. We have also bigger ones, harmless but a little too big for my taste.
r/spiders
I don’t know the real name, but we call them “cellar spiders” where I live. Absolutely harmless.
Not to brag or anything, but I had a Wolf Spider as a house guest when I lived in South Africa.
[Spider!](https://photos.app.goo.gl/Jf3oMDi6awXnHFsb6) album: First three are of a spider on a gate that I needed to get through so I could go for a trail run. I opened the gate very carefully. The ones after that are of the spider that I found under my Weber that I then moved into a tree — the spider, not the Weber because that would have been weird. Then it caught a cockroach and I felt like David Attenborough as I observed it devouring the hapless pest.
the only spider you should know is the Dornfinger, especially the kind that lives close to bodies of water since the bite can necortize your skin and give you a severe allergic reaction, too. All the others are just ugly.
Next time put a banana in the picture for measuring 🙃
All the answers are correct with identifying it. But: they can jump pretty far (1m) and are fast as hell, they can bite through your skin a little bit, their venom is usually not dangerous for you unless you are allergic to wasps or bees then you should not risk getting bitten. That said they are very calm and peaceful usually. Don’t disturb them and you are fine. They are useful houseguests and eat loads of bugs. At that size the spider probably has more right to live in your apartment than you just counting the years. XD
I normally name then something boring like Bob or Jim
Lots of people saying it is a house spider, it may be, but there is also a good chance it is a Nasferatu spider. They are not a native species, they eat the awesome native house spiders, and suck. They are not really dangerous, mildly venomous but not deadly or anything.
Do a quick google search for pictures, their coloring and patterning vary. A big giveaway is they don’t make webs like our normal house spiders. They will exclusively hang out on walls and ceilings. If you determine it is a Nosferatu, kill it, and I say that as someone who always captures and releases bugs I find in places I don’t want them or they shouldn’t be. They are invasive and assholes.
edit to add: this looks like a Nosferatu to me, zoomed in on your picture and the body has the distinct black markings, and the legs have the typical brown speckled patterning.
Seems you were living in a bubble
Dude at this point I think that thing is letting _you_ live in _its_ apartment.
From my experience the big spiders that really look intimidating are most of the times the Hauswinkelspinne or the Mausspinne. Both are harmless. A wasp is far more dangerous
Please place a penis next to the spider so we can better judge the size….
I hate and fear spiders and *irony* forgot to teach my son to do the same . He often brings exactly those spiders to me and I have to stay calm. 😩
Oh dude, thats a small one. They can get almost as big as your hand. You probably already have one in your house though, so get used to it
common European house spider, super chill. I keep them around to eat the other insects. I pick them up by hand too, and they never bite.
