Hi everyone, I have a question regarding travel within the Schengen zone while waiting for my EU Blue Card extension in Berlin.

My current physical Blue Card residence permit is still valid until 17 July 2026, and I still have the card with me. I already attended my renewal appointment in May 2026 and received a letter saying I can collect my new card from 24 June 2026 onwards. They asked me to bring my passport and current eAT for the appointment so I assume they would cancel my current card when I collect the new one that day?

Since my current Blue Card card itself is still physically valid until July 17 and has not been taken away, can I still travel within Schengen in the first week of June?

Has anyone had a similar situation with a Blue Card extension in Berlin?

    Thanks!

    1. You should be able to travel within Schengen with your old card, yes. You shouldn’t after the old card expires, the letter itself does not give you permission for re-entry so if it takes longer you might want to ask for a new Fiktionsbescheinigung – but that’s for July, not June. And hopefully the new card is finished by then anyway 😉

    2. Schengen area travel is allowed, just carry your passport and Vali/expired blue card, also the appointment letter from abh.
      You will be fine.

    3. I have done that and haven’t had any problems since the card itself says it’s valid. Also as long as you don’t leave the Schengen area no one will check your visa while travelling.
