White Ribbon Day

The Day of White Ribbons will be celebrated in Prijedor today. The public meeting has been properly announced and will be held starting at 11 a.m., the informal civic initiative announced. "Because it concerns me"the organizer of this year’s celebration.

"With a white ribbon around the arm and a white canvas on the window, we will mark this one as well May 31 White Ribbon Day. International White Ribbon Dayreminding is of May 31 in 1992, when Crisis headquarters municipality of Prijedor forced the non-Serb population to mark their houses and apartments with white flags, and to wear a white armband around the city if they moved around the city. Prijedor white stripes have been established as a fact in several court processes for war crimesfrom the first verdict before the ICTY in The Hague to Duško Tadic, to the final verdicts against Radovan Karadžić and Ratko Mladić"they stated from the Initiative "Because it concerns me".
The central commemoration in Prijedor begins with a gathering in the Old Town at 11 a.m., in Ahmet Babić Street, at the place where a monument should be erected for 102 murdered children from Prijedor. At 12:00, the participants are expected to arrive at the main square in Prijedor, where the main program marking the Day of White Ribbons will be held and 102 roses with the names of the murdered children will be laid.
White Ribbon Day and this year it is being held as a protest because the Prijedor authorities, led by Mayor Slobodan Javor, have not yet issued approval for the construction of a monument to the murdered children. The Initiative points out that the support of citizens who come to the commemoration is very important because the parents of the murdered Prijedor children did not receive help or understanding from local institutions.
