We came across this young lady (20-30?) crying and pleading for help on the side of the road close to the Barnafoss parking lot. She said she had been left behind by her boyfriend. There wasn’t much we could do, but her situation seemed dangerous so I hope this thread is okay to post

Edit: Please note that we did call the police and the American embassy the moment we had reception. Incident took place May 28, around 10:15PM

Hi we are visiting from Canada and were driving from Barnafoss to Bogarnes and came across this young woman walking along the road in the cold. She was crying and literally doing the 🙏🙏 motions with her hands and so we stopped. She said she is American and her boyfriend left her behind. She asked if we could use our phone to call him for her (meaning she had or has no phone on her?!) She got partway through giving us her number when he drove up in a green Defender heading back towards Barnafoss. He looked much much older than her, like 45+ and she is 20-30. One of the girls in our car asked if that was indeed her boyfriend, and she said yes in a weird tone. He stopped the car on the side of the road and she ran over and we could hear her pleading for him to let her in. She kept grabbing at the handles but the doors wouldn’t open. We got out of the car and started approaching, and that’s when the doors opened and she was allowed to get in. We waited a moment and backtracked to the Barnafoss parking lot and found their Defender there. It looked like he was giving her a talking to outside their vehicle, and that’s when one of us started recording this video. We are a little spooked because they both got into the backseat (windows completely tinted) and then shortly after he gets out on his own and gets into the driver’s seat and drives off in the opposite direction of Bogarnes.

We waited a moment, followed and saw them parked on the side of the road with their hazards on. We parked and waited a 100m away. They sped off and we called the police and American embassy. The call dropped a few times due to spotty connection so we finished the call at a nearby hotel.

We believe the number she was giving us was a new Mexico number, but it’s possible we are mistaken because the boyfriend pulled up after we confirmed the first 3 digits. We have no idea if the boyfriend is American or a local or what anyone can do, but she looked very scared and so we just want to put the word out in case someone in the area sees something odd.
