Hey there,
A friend of mine and myself want to take two days in Stepantsminda for hiking.
From Tbilisi to Stepantsminda I think we can just take the marshrutka from Didube.
The difficulty lies in coming back from Stepantsminda.
A friend of mine suggested there is no way to get a bolt to drive us down.
The reason has to do with the military road she said.
Our only way is to hitch hike back.
Now problem is: our hike on the second day will be in very long and we will probably start going back from Stepantsminda at let’s say 6pm.
Is it reliable to hitch hike back to Tbilisi from there?
What other options do we got?
Thanks for your help!

You can just take the same kind of marshrutka back to Tbilisi. I think it departs every hour or so, excluding nighttime.
Gotrip.ge has long distance taxis. You can’t get a taxi quickly, but you can use with say a couple of hours notice, so it works as a backup option. Sometimes there’s ones on discount that have done a one way trip to Stepantsminda already.
But as others have said, the marshrutka should work, although I don’t personally know the timetable. From memory, they leave from like the central square / they’re fairly obvious.
