Ireland hasn’t been a “British island” for more than a century.

Great picture of the Irish isles.

Apropos of nothing, i was just reading about how light comes from the north in relief maps – despite the fact that, at least in the northern hemisphere, it ought to be coming from the south since that’s where the sun actually is most of the time – because our brains expect light to generally come from the top, and when the light comes from below the shading can invert your perspective and make you read all the ridges as valleys and vice versa.

Are people really arguing that Ireland isn’t part of the British isles? Crazy. Very cool map though.
Edit nvm it’s a repost. Should’ve known.
Also amazing that I can be taken as some anti Irish nutjob for that take lmao. Fuck the UK it’s been deeply mismanaged and unfavourable to the smaller nations in favour of England (and really only a fraction of England at that), dissolve it as soon as possible.

This is a gem!

People getting sad about Ireland being on there are missing the point that it’s a very cool geological representation.

The map needs the wording in the title changed from The British Islands – to – The British Isles.
The British Islands? You mean Britain and Ireland?

Its kind of sad watching people get downvoted for correctly pointing out that the name of the isles is British Isles, but I honestly don’t know why we don’t call the isles something different.
It obviously upsets the Irish and I don’t think anyone in the UK cares if the name is changed.
Calling it something like Alba/Albion Isles would likely be more palatable for most people

Why is Ireland there?

My ex, who is a geotechnical engineer, collects these. I’ll see if I can find a clear photo…

But other than that it’s a lovely map.

That’s one map that won’t change much at least.
