I can see the technical side of occupying everything south of the river. The bufferzone Looks quite small for keeping drones and other short ranged stuff out of israel. Does anyone know how far it is from Israel proper to the yellow line? It can’t be more than 35km and with new drone tech from Russia and Iran they will need a 50km buffer in no time it seems like.

This could lead to an agreement for normalization with Lebanon. Israel followed this playbook in the past & eventually made peace with Egypt by returning territories it occupied after the 67 war.
Lebanon and Israel at least seem aligned when it comes to the very reasonable notion that an armed Hezbollah which is stronger than the Lebanese military undermines Lebanon’s very sovereignty.
To set the stage – This is all coming after Israeli and Lebanese leaders met mere weeks ago in DC.
If I’m Israel or Lebanon, I push towards Israeli funding, arming, training, and collaboration to the shared goal of removing Hezbollah from their status as de facto rulers of Lebanon. The biggest obstacle here is how seriously Israel and Lebanon take Iran’s demands of tying the situation in Lebanon to any agreement in Iran.

It must be strange to be in the Lebanese army. Like obviously many of them would be anti hezbollah as well, but knowing that a neighbouring country is invading your territory, displacing millions of your citizens, bombing your capital, and in a some cases killing your fellow soldiers, and you are not permitted to retaliate, must be extremely controversial among their cadre. That’s even excluding the portion that are Shia, and those whose own families have been driven out of their homes. I’m surprised there hasn’t been an attempted coup tbh.

Whenever I read the comments on posts about Israel here, I always fail to understand how so many people still try to defend Israel after everything they’ve done these past few years. October 7th has long since been over, people. There’s no justification for Israel’s continued expansion and attacks on its neighbors and there CERTAINLY is no justification for Israel’s continued mistreatment of and outright genocide against the Palestinian people
