      Some Surveyor fun facts:

Apollo 12 landed near the landing site of Surveyor 3, and astronauts sawed off bits and pieces and returned them to study how deep space effects materials. These studies led to better understanding of how to design spacecraft for deep space environments.

Surveyor 6 was the first spacecraft to lift off from another body after it performed a commanded short hop from the surface, landing 2 meters away from its initial landing site in 1967. In the same feat it was the first spacecraft to ever take off and land on another celestial body. This small flight blew away dust from the initial landing leg imprints and confirmed scientists hypothesis about regolith makeup. The deposition of dust on the spacecraft also lead to initial theories about the electrostatic properties of lunar regolith.

All of the surveyors that soft landed on the moon are still there to this day (as imaged by lunar orbiters)
