We ourselves have come to the point that when traveling as a couple we don’t always want to open the roof tent, while when traveling as a foursome we need a flexible option.
Our solution is that the car has a sleeping platform built into the trunk + drawer system/mini camping kitchen and the kids can sleep there while my wife and I use the roof tent.
It seems to be a pretty good compromise at the moment, but I’m interested in how others have solved it – have you done a similar setup or found a better option?
I also put the whole build together as a video if anyone is interested in seeing how it was done.
