How do they plan to make flight capable drones?

Article says somwthing about hoppers, but I thought the moon had pretty minimal atmosphere to support flight using things like wings and propellers.

it’s been “taking shape” in this way for 70 years. Concepts for lunar bases and for machines that would operate there are older than the Apollo landings.

Too funny. Nice cartoons. It looks like something from Scientific American from the fifties. Never going to happen, at least any time soon. Too much development still needed.

    4. I seem to recall that Buzz Aldrin outlined a method of setting up life support structures on the lunar surface some 50 odd years ago. As I recall his outline was easily feasible. It’s just NASA was never funded to do it. I think I’d be giving Buzz a call.

Yeah but the difference now is the tech and the incentives are finally lining up. For decades it was just “cool NASA art” and Cold War flexing, now you’ve got cheaper launch, legit commercial interest, and multiple countries racing to plant flags and hardware.

It still might slip like everything in space does, but this is the first time it doesn’t feel purely sci fi anymore.

    6. I hear they have to start over again everytime because every few days there is a moonless night.
