The memory of the flash floods in Rokycany (Prešov district) – it’s been a year already

Hello, today is exactly one year since the devastating super cell and flash floods hit the village of Rokycany and the Prešov area (June 2, 2025).

Do you still remember those shots? The torrential rain then turned the stream and the streets into a raging river. The water was so strong that it easily swept away parked cars and pushed them into ditches. The worst hit was the local settlement, where approximately ten houses were left completely uninhabitable due to deposits of mud and destroyed structures. The mayor then had to immediately declare a state of emergency.

Firefighters did their best at the time, evacuating people from flooded houses and cleaning blocked bridges, while nearby villages such as Žipov or Brežany had completely flooded roads with debris from the forests. The entire infrastructure, drinking water and sewage were in ruins.

How does it look in the village today, one year after the disaster? Did the affected families manage to reconstruct their homes, or are the consequences still haunting them?
