That number is the same in Japan, and for the same reasons. Late-night partying is on the decline, fewer young people overall, and people aren’t staying late as work as often.
Only reason Japan’s numbers haven’t gone down even further in the big cities is because of the tourism boom.
I wonder why… maybe because everything closes at like 9 pm.
There’s probably only like 3 trains even coming after midnight anyway
part of it is also the shift in how people socialize. delivery culture exploded during covid and a lot of people just never went back to going out late. why take the last train home when you can have everything brought to you. the 23% drop makes sense when you factor in that plus fewer young people and the general trend away from late-night drinking culture.
