In case someone hasn’t seen it, the scene of [the allies storming Omaha Beach](https://youtu.be/XijMMhs55oc) in Saving Private Ryan (1998) is harrowing and shows just a glimpse of what happened that day

Better add the 101st on there.

Likely an American map, and thus incorrect, because the Canadians on Juno got within 3 miles of Caen by the end of the day. The furthest inland of the 5 beaches. That’s further than the June 12 line here.
So many lives lost, only to be invaded so easily now. Very sad.

I just watched the Brendan Frasier D-Day movie. It was alright. He just screams at everyone throughout the whole film.

Grandad Reg was there.
Reg was there the first time round and in the end made it back to Blighty.
Like so many of his mates he was there twice. 😬

Why is 101 Airborne not shown?

Historically incorrect flag for Canada. The Maple Leaf flag didn’t come into service until 1965, more than 20 years after D-Day.

How many miles inland is Cherbourg on this map?!

I hate when historical maps use ahistorical flags. The Canadian flag didn’t look like that until 1965 and the anerican flag only got 50 stars in 1960. British one is correct though.

Change the Canadian flag to the red ensign.

There were also soldiers from 12 other Allied Nations, including Australia, Belgium, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, France, Greece, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Norway, New Zealand, Zimbabwe and Poland.
Without their support as naval, air or ground support, the success wouldn’t have happened.
