    1. Many people assume the Equator is the sunniest part of the world. In reality, some of the highest sunshine totals are found in the subtropical desert belts on either side of it.

Regions such as the Sahara, Arabian Peninsula, interior Australia and parts of the Americas spend much of the year under clear skies, with some locations receiving more than 4,000 hours of sunshine annually.

By contrast, many equatorial regions experience frequent cloud cover and heavy rainfall, which can significantly reduce the amount of direct sunshine reaching the ground

This map is BS. In no way does Seattle receive the same amount of sunshine as the California coast.

So I wasn’t crazy when I thought the USA is sunnier than South America

This is kinda true for me(central Brazil). The winter is mostly sunny while the summer is gray. In febreuary 2022, it rained for 18 days in a row, and similiar events are common in that part of the year. When I installed solar panels in my home, I discoverd that the spring (sep-nov) generates more energy than the summer(dec-feb).

For reference there’s 8766 hours in a year. Or on average 4383 hours of “daylight”.

Which really puts into perspective how depressing Antarctica would be that less than 14% of the time is there any sunshine and only about a quart of the “daytime” is sunny.

    6. I want to make it clear that my city in France is yellow! Due to the very poor resolution of OP’s picture, you have to zoom in and Marseille and the Côte-d’Azur appear as green..

I live in the dark blue . Long dark winters are awful pitch black between 4pm and 8.30am an in between just dark grey skies with wind and rain, it really gets to you

Even in summers sometimes you can go a week without noticing a shadow despite it being “light”

And this is why if you’re in the dark blue they tell you to take Vit D supplements year round.

A Sunny place for shady people

The sunniest place on Earth for 4 months a year. Yuma Arizona beats us on the yearly average though

    11. I’m not believing this for a second. I live in New Zealand, and have a keen interest in meteorology. Straight away I can see this is wrong.

“The **sunniest four regions** in 2025 are Taranaki (2445 hours), wider Nelson (2392 hours), Marlborough (2375), and Bay of Plenty (2358 hours).”

According to our National Institute of Weather and Atmospheric Science. These are generally the same places every year, but only Marlborough is highlighted in yellow on the map.
