The collection was written in the Arabic script and included works by numerous Azerbaijani poets and writers, such as Molla Panah Vagif, Akhund Molla Penah, Gasim bey Zakir, Mesikh, Kenberg, Karbalai, Abdullah Jami, Baba Bek, Mehdi Bek, Ashiq Peri, Molla Vali Vidadi, Kazim Sarif, Abdur Arif, Arif, Arif, Arif Shapr, Nebati Ajaf, and Masum.

For many years, Berzhe collected works and biographies of Azerbaijani poets of the 18th-19th centuries with the aim of publishing them. Although he completed the manuscript in 1860, it was not published until 1869-1870 in Leipzig, Germany, with a German preface written by Berzhe. Despite several attempts, the work was never published in Russia.

In 1860, after being appointed chairman of the Caucasian Archaeographical Commission, Berzhe traveled to Europe, where one of the goals of his trip was to arrange the publication of this collection of Azerbaijani poetry.
