Democratic Party of Korea Representative Kim Young-bae stated on the 8th that regarding Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon’s claim of holding President Lee Jae Myung responsible for the ballot paper shortage incident and People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok’s call for a re-election, “the simplest solution is for Mayor Oh Se-hoon himself to resign, which would trigger a by-election.”
Rep. Kim wrote on his Facebook page that day, “If Mayor Oh believes that the political sphere, not the election commission, should bear infinite responsibility for the ballot paper shortage, there is a different course of action he should take: accept Leader Jang’s proposal for a Seoul mayoral re-election,” elaborating as such.

….lol
This is literally all i can say about that statement
Actually the protesters should call for all electees to voluntarily resign for the greater good if they are serious. If they don’t feel like to, then it proves either they don’t understand how out of reach their demand is, or their motive is not as sincere as they claim or believe.
Again I get that people are rightfully upset, I support a thorough investigation and a reform, but they went too far.
This is like blaming your doctor for your trash at home not being picked up. So stupid.
So.. right as I posted this, Lee seemed to have called for a convening of four government branch officals (including the constitutional court) to address the issue.
“President Lee is scheduled to hold a meeting with the four key officials (the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court, and the Prime Minister) at the Blue House this afternoon.”
He’s been confirmed, he has the position. If he really believes there should be an election then he can resign and the election will be held again.
It should be noted that the DP has not yet decided on a party-level position regarding the re-election. There have been members of parliaments from within the DP who have called for it too, such as 최민희 and 박선원.
Resigning and triggering a by-election would *resemble* a re-election but it would entail (1) the confirmation of last week’s election as having been legitimate and concluded, and (2) the ineligibility of mayor Oh to run in that election. It’s the difference between a “re-vote” and “another vote”. Obviously the whole discussion right now is a new frontier for the country legally.
