My favorite scale, from <1 to Louisiana.
West Virginia is a clear outlier here relative to its poverty levels.

Washington DC’s murder rate seems strange to most visitors from Europe (like me last summer) because we mainly only visit the government district. This would be like an American only visiting Kensington and Chelsea and wondering about this London knife crime epidemic.

CA and WA are both under 5 but you have them as being over, and the highest state is Mississippi at 19.7.

Interesting that one of the only states with comparable levels in the states has some of the loosest gun laws.
And reddit will try to convince you that people are getting slaughtered regularly by migrants in Europe
New Hampshire has the least restrictive gun laws in the nation and the lowest gun crime.

Ironically, the people who say that Europe is crime ridden are the same who think that Russia and the US are safe countries.

So the USA have more in common with Russia than with the rest of Europe…

Interestingly, this has been true for hundreds of years. The rates of violence in USA and Europe have both fallen dramatically, yet the USA is typically 2-3x higher at any given historical moment.
This has to be older stats. Current murder rate in California is 4.3 murders per 100k
Stats are so wrong also current Louisiana murder rate is about 11.3 per 100k. California is 4.3 per 100k
Why do people in louisiana love to murder so much?
This is outdated. Overall homicide rates per 100000 were at 4.0 last year.
It’s amazing how, no matter what the metric, you always know the southern states are going to be the worst.
And the south skews heavily republican… hmm 🤔

I watch a lot of British crime dramas on BBC and Britbox. Man. There’s murdered people almost every episode. Thought England would be higher. 😜
