I didn’t expect Denmark of all places to have a state religion

Fun fact, there are only two countries on earth that include religious clerics in their national government make-up: the Islamic Republic of Iran, and Great Britain.
I consider it a national disgrace.

If Denmark is on this map, then Iceland, Sweden, Norway, and Finland should all be marked the same.

A map either shows countries or States. IMO, If UK countries are all shown, so should places like the Basque Country or Catalonia.

But for example Finland has two national churches that are allowed to tax people who are members, is that not state religion?

Andorra should be shown as well since one of its co-princes is the bishop of Urgell

Why does Germany tax Christians in the name of the church then

There should be a third category which is ”head of state has to follow a given religion”. Sweden is in that category.

Those religious freaks got into Vatican too? They must be stopped before they claim everything. /j

The UK is full of these odd contradictions – yes, we have a state religion, however we have successfully converted that religion into a social club where God is an optional extra.
Honestly for most people it’s about tea, cake and the outfits.

England is not in reality a Christian country, though. It is secular in practice.

Yeah so about France, it’s complicated. Many overseas have an official religion (Mayotte being the only one with Islam as its official religion) and Alsace-Moselle too because it wasn’t part of France when the separation of Churuch and state was proclaimed. So no state religion except in the places where there is. Also the 1789 Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen (which is ackowledged in the French constitution as being of constitutional status) had a mention of the “Supreme Being”, a deistic god of the Revolution.

The fact that 2 of them are famous for when they were not their state religion and the 3rd is a religion a guy made up on the fly to get a divorce is astonishing

For the UK is it still a state religion if the majority of the population don’t follow it?

What is a state religion? The Netherlands doesn’t have a official state church, but the king signs laws ‘by the grace of God’. So…

UK. TIL, “Church of England” is just that, the State Religion only in England, and not in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Don’t need a state religion if you send all your religious minorities to concentration camps.

Fun fact: there is only one country on the American continent with a State Religion and it’s the country my mom’s side of the family immigrated to the USA from – Costa Rica! 🇨🇷
Most of my cousins in CR think it’s fucking stupid and want the government to get rid of the officialization of Catholicism, but it doesn’t really have much of an effect on day to day life in Costa Rica.
