That map of Hungary is entirely fictional. 970 Hungary did not yet have Slovakia and had barely started the settlement of Transylvania.

Wait! I thought they didn’t like activities that involved such cross border activities?

When I see a map like this i wonder why people only have Vikings as pop cultural references from this era. Is it because the Hungarians never raided the British Isles?

At history class in Hungary these are called the “Times of Adventure” as some fun daytrip
Thankfully our king Istvan was wise enough in 1000 ad. to realize: in order to adopt, the culture must adopt too, and made us change our religion to catholic.
If this would not have happened, we would appear similar to arabs and such.
Thanks catholic religion for driving this nice continent in one direction!

A lot of those “raids” were mercenary contract by local lords to attack their neighbours, whom they had beef with.

I always find such things so crazy and unbeliebable. I mean, how was this in any way possible? How could it work logistically?
In those times they maybe didnt even have a map of where they were going. How did they get the idea to just go out to the neighbours and further for raiding over years? Why werent they just surronded and trapped in middle of Europe? Why were they seemingly so superior to their enemies in the middle of their homecountry?

And then Otto the Great defeated them at the Battle of Lechfeld (955). You’ll see by the dates they didn’t try again after that.

The English Wikipedia article describes the campaigns in quite some detail.

Sorry for the whole thing, it was childish.
