Are you closer to Georgia the state or Georgia the country?

While they share an English name, the U.S. state of Georgia and the nation of Georgia have entirely different origins. The American state was named in 1732 in honor of King George II, whereas Georgia is known natively as Sakartvelo. Its English exonym likely evolved from the Persian term gurğān, meaning “land of wolves,” rather than being linked to the British monarchy.

I think it’s interesting that only two countries are divided in this map, meaning some places in the country are closer to one, others closer to the other Georgia.

And I think it’s funny that one of the two (Russia) happens to be a neighboring country to the country Georgia.
