The South should come as no surprise but what should come as a surprise is Rio de Janeiro, specially the city.

Yeah we are mostly mixed poor europeans.
Somehow people think that browns outside of europe means africans, asians or native americans so understanding that brazilians are of european ancestry is ridiculously difficult for them, although most brazilians know this and consider themselves to be of european genes.
Almost half of brazilians are white btw.
It would be hard for you to find someone in Brazil without European genetic ancestry, even if they look black.
