Jay in Kyiv: Russians Turn Against Putin As Country Implodes

Unrest across Russia continues to spread as Ukraine's relentless long-range strike campaign reaches even deeper into the country. Overnight, Ukraine destroyed what appears to be the 13th Wildberries logistics hub targeted in recent weeks while also striking the Ryazan oil refinery, nearly 900 km from the Ukrainian border. A new Wildberries bingo board is unveiled, showing 23 logistics facilities now destroyed and only 17 remaining.

New satellite imagery confirms the Syzran oil refinery, responsible for around 5% of Russia's refining capacity, is now effectively out of operation after repeated Ukrainian strikes. Another major oil facility in Perm, almost 1,800 km from Ukraine, is also burning, highlighting Kyiv's rapidly expanding strike reach.

Bloomberg reports that Russia's refining output in July fell to its lowest level since 2002, while Russian grain exports plunged 37% compared to a year earlier. At the same time, Russians have withdrawn a record amount of money from investment funds, the largest outflow since records began in 1998, adding to growing concerns over the country's economy.

With Putin's tightly controlled elections just six weeks away, public frustration is becoming increasingly visible. Russians are openly insulting Putin, telling him to "go to his friends in North Korea and Afghanistan," while anger spreads over Ukraine's ability to strike targets hundreds or even thousands of kilometers inside Russia.

Russian military bloggers warn that Ukraine is deploying a new ultra-fast drone reportedly capable of speeds around 700 km/h with a range approaching 2,000 km, claiming Russian air defenses are struggling to intercept it. Other prominent Russian bloggers say Ukraine is now launching roughly three times as many drones as Russia.

Meanwhile, Kremlin propagandist Vladimir Solovyov escalates rhetoric even further, suggesting Russia should provide Iran with missiles capable of sinking the USS Abraham Lincoln aircraft carrier.

Even Putin's carefully staged domestic appearances continue to draw ridicule after authorities were once again accused of changing fuel prices at petrol stations along his route during his visit to Krasnoyarsk to hide the country's growing fuel crisis.
