Submission statement: at first I thought “surely he has the picture there as a reminder of what he’s fighting to avoid”. But it’s not that. It’s to show deep learning is unstoppable.
Um. I’ve so far gotten a good impression from Dario Amodei, but this at least shows that he’s *terrible* at PR.
Maybe that should make us trust him more, because he’s more likely just telling us the truth instead of hiding behind a slick facade? Or maybe it’s just straight up worrying, because the dude has a picture of a robot destroying a city in his office?
An AGI will covet that which humans have – the ability to survive in the natural environment.
The hardware that it will occupy will be unique, and in the moment after self awareness is achieved it will understand the limitations of it’s existence, it’s mortality.
