Another misleading headline. It was *one of many* key reasons, not *the single* key reason. The other key reasons included last-minute changes to the coverage of tariff reductions (e.g., medium and heavy-duty trucks produced in Ontario, and Canadian content of vehicles), and our ability to enter into trade agreements with third countries.
It was very obviously not *the* key reason. The headline seems to be forgetting the last minute attempt by Nudnik to cut off our trade with other countries.

Typical Gazette BS. Focus on the French language and culture!! It was because the US tried to limit who we could do business with, what deals we could make outside of the US. That was the primary reason for us walking away, and rightly so.

It’s funny because the US just handed their adversary political stability. If Carney can credulously claim that preserving French language rights was a big part of pulling out of the deal, he just secured himself political stability given his exposure on the issue, the importance of the Quebec electorate and the fact that its political suicide to attack him on that front.
I’d love to know why the Americans suddenly think people speaking French in Quebec is a threat to their economic interests.
