So is there anyone at all left that doesn’t see what the United States is trying to accomplish here? There’s going to be no tariff free deal, as the Tories seem to want, there isn’t going to be a favorable deal with even reduced tariffs. The US wants to absorb us. The good thing, at the moment, is that this is limited to economic coercion, so the best thing we can do is prepare for an ugly tariff war and look elsewhere for fairer rational trade.

    2. Canada wants the benefits of a reliable trading partner.

If we can’t get it with the US, we’ll get it elsewhere. Simple.

    3. He seems to perceive a foreign country having free trade with the United States as an injustice to them. He sees it as a privilege that can only make sense between states within country. Presumably because “money is not leaving the country” in that scenario.

He is an idiot, and is economically illiterate.

    4. Who said we want to have the “benefits of being a state”? What we want is the benefits of having a reliable trading partner (which Americans clearly are not). This guy is delusional.

Sounds about right. Even if you don’t want to believe it, ask yourself, can Canada defend itself? How sustainable are our way of life, free healthcare, education if national defence is fully funded.

Tabarnak, I can’t wait for the day when we no longer have to hear this demented, criminal fool speak about anything.

    7. As Wab Kinew said, history won’t be kind to Donald Trump.

So Canadians shouldn’t be. I’m supportive of these retaliatory tariffs.

    8. Important Note: Trump raped children, and is using ICE to hunt, kidnap, traffic and rape more while he bombs innocent people abroad.

So I guess this is the writing on the wall. I’m actually surprised that American media is not covering this in much extent. I get that most US media is captured by right wing interest, but this has been developing for close to two years now. I guess he really wants his little “Technate of America”. Let’s make him work for it.

    10. Those who aren’t friends with the United States are being treated better. And even their adversaries are treated with much more respect, certainly when it comes to sovereignty.

Can we get that kind of treatment please? Because being friends really sucks.

FWIW Trump is referring to duty-free trade as if we were another US state, while employing tariffs to protect key industries because we are a sovereign state and pointing out the dissonance between the two positions. You can have one or the other but not both.

We own the rails that run through all of the USA and provide all their internal trade. In terms of trade we quite literally own their asses. Who cares what Trump says?

Trump says this shit but we all need to be honest. If US invades and takes over Canada we will not be a state. They will not give us 2 senators. They will have us as an territory
