I’ve started going to parkrun and it’s everyone running together non competitively, do they have competitive ones split by gender?
Couldn’t care about the gender politics of this – who am I to say what’s what.

Parkrun isn’t a race, they even stopped publishing results didn’t they? You can only see your own time now I think. I agree with the general principle of protecting women’s sports, but it’s not relevant to Parkrun.
Bloody hell, I thought we couldn’t get any more ridiculous than the Women’s Chess tournament, but this is just sad.

Women is doing a lot of heavy lifting from daily mail editorial there from what it actually is.
Also it’s really funny how the transphobic press have the bend over backwards to not call trans women, women. It just makes their headlines clunky.
This is a free event run by volunteers and if you don’t like it then you don’t have to participate.
Please don’t legitimise this kind of petty bullshit with actual debate.

Sounds like the need to set up their own competitive running clubs r we it’s biological sex testing.
Don’t give a toss about gender. What parkrun should ban is professional runners who want a fast time and everyone else clapping for them.
It’s like a professional singer going to karaoke and expecting people to be amazed at how well they sing
Of course, the aim here isn’t really anything to do with parkrun, or fairness in sport. It’s to make it impossible for some people to take part in public activities. The only thing that would satisfy these ghouls is if they never heard from or saw anyone they can’t neatly slot into the little pre-built gender categories in their narrow little minds. But put that overarching aim aside for a moment. What can they hope to achieve here?
We’re not going to get volunteers checking birth certificates or demanding to peek down people’s shorts as they cross the finish line. We’re also not going to get some kind of online identity vetting system when you sign up for a barcode. The only way these weirdos are going to see any kind of success is either a) no more parkrun, because if lawsuits start being threatened I doubt they have the funds to fight this sort of thing, and these types of people are very litigious, or b) no more gender categories and probably much more limited publishing of times and records. Great stuff, what a incredible success that would be.
The trouble with anything where times are logged is that for a subset of people, and it seems Park Run attracts a good few of these types, is that it becomes very very competitive.
I guess though you need to keep these tracking aspects (times, milestones, badges etc.) to keep people coming back for more. Some of the stories I’ve heard of people who become borderline obsessed with it though are WILD.
If it really was just a humble fun run you’d remove the time tracking aspect and then if individuals wanted to time themselves, theres a million ways they can do it personally.

Wanna bet there isn’t *thousands* protesting some vanishingly small numbers of trans folk for taking part in a non-competitive event that is all about being inclusive?
Uh oh, looks like things were getting a little too trans sympathetic round here what with their healthcare for **adults** being brutally cancelled after years of waiting lists like 2 days ago. Better get out an article about… I dunno… trans women being too good at a **fun run** I guess!
