Catholicism doesn’t typically focus on so-called “biblical doomsday events.”

This is honestly most evangelicals – they’re obsessed with the end times and bring about the rapture and then hell on earth for all that remain. They care nothing beyond their own delusions of salvation despite the fact that according to their own eschatology, many evangelicals themselves will suffer eternal damnation.

It’s insane to me that some people think that they can force God’s hand to start the “end times”. I’m pretty sure this isn’t a Catholic viewpoint JD.

This is the major problem of a significant section of Christianity. My dad is like this. They *want* the world to end.

This is why Christians can’t be trusted with power. Their religious doctrine ends with a holy war where the entire world gets destroyed in Armageddon. End times is part of their religion and that’s why even the best Christians I find it hard to trust with my politicals.

The fucking vice President of the goddamn United States is perfectly fine with ending humanity. There is literally no fucking difference between this type of Christianity and the Islamic extremism we have been propagandized against.

I never used to believe in the Anti-Christ. Even when I was (somewhat) Catholic, it seemed like a joke.

Now I’m not even a tiny bit religious, but it’s hard not to believe the Anti-Christ is real. And it’s this guy’s boss.

Not that it matters, but “the end times” are not predicted in the Bible. The Book of Revelation is not a prediction about “the end times,” it’s a piece of apocalyptic literature about the time it was written, for the people of that time. It’s like saying that Moby Dick is about a dude who really fuckin’ hates a whale, full stop.

Same thing is true for things like Daniel; they’re written for the people of their time, and written about the time they’re written in, or more accurately, what had been going on around then.

I feel like this is something a lot of people don’t get, if they didn’t grow up Evangelical.

The “logic” is:

The world ends by Jesus coming back and taking all the Christians to heaven. This is a certainty.

Therefore, things like global warming, nuclear war, famine, etc. do not matter, because they know the world doesn’t end because of those things. It ends because Jesus grants them paradise.

For a significant number of them, global warming, nuclear war, etc. is a *good thing,* since the world can only end by Jesus coming back, nukes flying through the air would mean Jesus better hurry the fuck up.

They’re not just indifferent to the destruction of the world, they *want it to happen,* because the end result of it is paradise.

These are the people making the decisions in US politics.

Small edit just in case: While this is a common belief in American Evangelicalism, it is rare outside North America.

No one who says that should be anywhere near the nuclear codes.
