Despite making noises about respecting democracy, AI companies are unilaterally deploying extremely dangerous technologies without the consent of the people.
Despite these bold proclamations of fidelity to democratic principles, there is nothing democratic about the way OpenAI and Anthropic have built or deployed their AI systems. Not once have these companies asked the people — you and me — whether we want their AI chatbots. Not once did they solicit our opinions about the AIs now flooding the internet with slop, polluting the environment and exploiting our collective intellectual property (everything on the internet) for profit. Rather, they unilaterally decided to unleash AI on the world without our permission or consent, while predicting that AI will soon take everyone’s job and perhaps even destroy the world.

Who is the ‘we’ the article is claiming? Certainly not me.

Chasing super intelligence without room temperature quantum computing is like put the cart before the horse.

Is it possible that some of the anti-regulation rhetoric being thrown around is just theatrics to maintain market confidence? Like, maybe the CEOs aren’t as gung ho authoritarian as they make themselves out to be, but they have to pretend they are in order to dispell investor skepticism until the infrastructure is actually up and running?

Good luck! There isn’t any feasible way to create super intelligence currently, and no one has any clue how to do so. People fearmongering about AGI/ASI know nothing and if you seriously think LLM’s can get us there you know nothing about AI

AI doesn’t fill the internet with slop. People do that. AI doesn’t operate in its own. It’s the choice of people to use it like that.
