I am in Benidorm, I lifted some cash out and it gave me a ripped 50 euro note. I went to Santander but because it wasn’t the ATM outside the bank he wouldn’t change it. I have been trying to ring targo bank since 11am and no one is picking up the phone and I’m not going there to be told the same thing. I rung the number on the ATM pressed 3 for English and she spoke very little English and told me this was only for swallowed cards and couldn’t advise me on how to get it changed.

I also posted this in r/askspain but it wasn’t approved for some reason. Sorry if it isn’t allowed here.

    2. no shop should accept it, but every bank branch(delegation/office/place) have a procedure to send damaged banknotes (if more thn 50% is ok) to the central bank of spain. It may take time and be a pain in the assets but you shouldn’t loss money becouse of a damaged banknote

    3. I would go back to the ATM to get all the info you can: Address, serial number of ATM, Timestamp when you got the note, etc etc. After that, go to an office of Banco Santander and ask them to replace the note (the sooner, the better). Maybe they can find the other part of the note. If they refuse, next step could be going to an office of Banco de España.

Also call your bank and tell them the problem, maybe they can help you.
