      Founded in Viipuri in 1915 as Leipomo M. Salmi, relocated to Helsinki in 1940 and changed name to Viipurin leipä. Operated at Intiankatu 7 until 2002.       The English name for the town of Viipuri is Vyborg so it would be Vyborg’s Bread in English.

      Somewhat related to this:

      Some years ago, my Grandma who was born in Karelia died. We found in her freezer a rye-sourdough starter, which according to my aunt was originally evacuated during the Winter War from the original Valamo monastery in the center of Lake Ladoga. I made a batch from it so it’s still alive
