If you are taking the 3rd exit/turning left at a simple roundabout – indicate left. It’s incredibly helpful
I did not find a good image for a single lane roundabout, but it shows what I mean so just imagine a single lane
I don’t want to change the rule or start a petition – just my two rappen after 30,000km. I just find it odd
However this isn’t how it works in Switzerland. I understand the concept that if somebody is already on the roundabout, just don’t enter. However, this rule goes out the window if you indicate left
If you do indicate left, people will just pull out on you even after you past the exit because for some reason even if you are still going around, it somehow translates to just pull out in front of them🤨 it took me a long time to get my head around this and remember to not ever indicate until I am exiting because it’s not helpful, it confuses people
Going right? Indicate right.
Going straight? Don’t indicate yet, only when you exit.
Going left? Indicate left, then indicate right as you exit
I do expect a lot of people will disagree with me here, but when you’ve lived in countries which indicate left if you’re taking the 3rd exit you realise how useful it is.

yep. there’s also way better signage on the floor in i think every other western country I’ve driven in.
in switzerland, it’s often unclear which lane to take for a certain exit in multilane roundabouts. I’ve driven through one for 10 years on my commute now and i still don’t know how it was intended to be driven. and obviously other drivers are unsure as well…
Most people don’t even signal when leaving the roundabout (even if there is someone waiting at the entrance of the roundabout). It is mandated by law yet so many driver completely disregard this law. Let’s start with this, it would already help a lot

Everytime i see someone indicate left while entering a roundabout, I just think they are confused and don’t trust them at all.
I find people here to actually respect the roundabout a lot and they drive it consistently. I drove in Palermo once in a multilane one and someone was trying to take me over while I was figuring out which exit to go.
can somebody explain me why this would be better. When I’m waiting at the entry of a round about i don’t know where the other guy started and thus will use the 3rd exit from there. I just want to be able to enter safely when he blinks right
I don’t drive, I just ride a bicycle. But I prefer the concept that a roundabout is an infinite loop and as long as you don’t signal your exit, you stay in. There is no left, right, or straight – only out. This concept also works for roundabouts with 1 million exits. The one in your picture doesn’t.
I learned driving at a place that had a two lane roundabout, it’s not rocket science if you just follow traffic rules:
– when leaving the roundabout, be on the outer lane and indicate right to leave
– if you’re in the inner lane, switch lane before you exit.
– when switching lanes, traffic on the other lane has priority
– given the constraints above, the right lane is the only valid lane if you take the first exit
– if you need to leave at the second exit, it usually doesn’t make sense to use the inner lane since you need to be on the outer lane before you can exit
– if you exit at the third exit or beyond, you take the inner lane and eliminate conflict with people going right
– if it’s not safe to switch lanes before your exit, go for an extra round to get another opportunity to switch lanes
That being said,having clearer road markings does help when I drove at places that have them. Especially the Dutch turbine roundabouts were pretty nice once I got over the confusion of my first one encountering one.
I saw that in France and thought the same. It simply makes sense.
Okay I do this all the time because I learned to drive in another country. All of my foreign friends are also telling me how the fact that we don’t do this in Switzerland drives them nuts. It drives me nuts too. It’s extremely useful.

It’s the most helpful indication, because you know that when someone is coming towards you with the left blinker on, they will for sure not be exiting here. It’s also extremely useful to predict where people go on two lane roundabouts.
That’s the car designer’s fault. The typical Swiss driver has one hand on the gear lever and the other hand on the top of the steering wheel, so the indicators are out of reach
My brother in Christ, noone and I mean noone in the civilized world uses these dual lane roundabouts properly and correctly. It’s anarchy across the globe.
I mean isn’t going in the inner lane automatically an indication that you are going left? Why add confusion by adding blinkers that draw attention. The elderly have diffculties navigating roundabouts as is (but that’s a different issue), and could easily confused by blinking left.
